Fire Extinguisher Installation

Fire extinguishers should be located according to the provisions of BS 5306-8:2000 in conspicuous positions, on wall brackets or stands and where they can readily be seen by persons following an escape route. They should be located near to room exits, in corridors, stairways, lobbies and landings. If possible, they should be in similar positions on each floor

Fire Extinguisher Service

 

It is a legal requirement for all non-domestic/commercial properties to (where appropriate) equip the building with appropriate fire-fighting equipment (e.g. portable fire extinguishers) including Fire Extinguisher Installation. It is also part of these requirements to ensure they are maintained annually in accordance with BS 5306-3:2017. 

If your extinguishers have not had the necessary maintenance, they may not work when you need them most.

Fire class: A

Suited for use on the combustion of solid, organic materials such as wood, paper and textiles, water extinguishers spray a controlled full jet or spray of liquid water onto class A fire types. Cambs Fire Safety Ltd provide water extinguishers of 3 litre, 6 litre and 9 litre sizes, each kite marked to BS EN3: 1996.

Fire class: A & B

Suited for use on both class A and class B fires, AFFF extinguishers (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) are particularly suited to petrol, oil, fat and paint fires. The extinguishers range from 2 litres to 9 litres and have high fire ratings. Cambs Fire Safety Ltd foam extinguishers are kite marked to BS EN3: 1996.

Fire class: B

Designed for use on flammable liquids and electrical fires, CO2 extinguishers are suited to class B fires and can help to preserve electrical equipment. With aluminium body and brass valves, CO2 extinguishers are available in 2kg and 5kg sizes. All of our CO2 extinguishers are kite marked to BS EN3: 1996.

Fire class: F

Suited for use on class F fires, wet chemical extinguishers are specially designed for use on cooking oils and can often be found in kitchen environments. Our wet chemical extinguishers are available in sizes; 2 litres, 3 litres and 6 litres, giving 5A/40F, 8A/75F and 13A/75F fire ratings respectively.

Fire class: A, B & C

Designed for use on fires of mixed mediums, dry powder is especially effective against flammable liquid and flammable gas fires. Examples of these include propane, methane, hydrogen and natural gas fires. Ranging from 1kg up to 9kg, these extinguishers can also be used on electrical fires and are kite marked to BS EN3: 1996

Yes, your Fire Extinguishers must have an annual basic service. Our engineers will complete a number of checks prior to signing to say your extinguisher is safe to be used.

A minimum of 2 class A fire extinguishers (Water/Foam ) are required per floor of a building. Depending on risks present, you may also need a Co2 for electrical risk, Wet Chem and a Fire blanket in a kitchen area. Dry powder can be used on most fires including fuels, oils, gases and electrical. Dry powder is not recommended for use in enclosed spaces.

 

 

 

Each Fire Extinguisher has a fire rating. This may be 13A or 21A for class A fires or 144B for class B. Floor area fire rating will determine what size and how many you require per floor.

No, Fire extinguishers come in a range of colours to suit different clients and their premises.

however, all fire extinguishers should show a coloured band covering at least 5% of the body, indicating the media type.
